Joe Moseley

Joe Moseley attended Columbia Public Schools and the University of Missouri, receiving a Bachelors Degree in 1971 and a Juris Doctor in 1976. From 1976 to 1978 he served as an assistant public defender in the 13th Judicial Circuit and from 1978 through 1992 was the Boone County Prosecuting Attorney. In 1992, he was elected to the Missouri State Senate and served for four years in that position. He joined Shelter Insurance Companies in October 1994 and presently holds the position of Vice President, Public Affairs.

Mr. Moseley serves on the boards of directors of The Intersection, Columbia Independent School, the Property and Casualty Guaranty Fund and the Missouri Insurance Education Foundation.

He has previously served as national president of the MU National Alumni Association, president of Columbia Rotary, president of the Tiger Quarterback Club, Chairman of the Board of Regional Economic Development Incorporated, president of the Columbia Public Schools Foundation, and president of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors. He has also served on the boards of directors of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, Advent Enterprises, Rainbow House Shelter for Abused Children, the Missouri Chapter of the National Committee for the Prevention of Child Abuse, Woodhaven Learning Center, University Hospital Center, Friends of Rusk Rehabilitation Center, the Boone County Family Health Center and the Columbia Area United Way.  He has chaired the Mid-Missouri Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Central Missouri Food Bank Capital Campaign, the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon, the Woodhaven Capital Campaign, the Stephens College Capital Campaign and the Multiple Sclerosis Dinner of Champions.

Mr. Moseley received the 1997 Distinguished Service Award from the MU Alumni Association, the 1996 Geyer Award for Public Service to Higher Education, the 1996 Citizen of the Year Award from the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, the 1994 Ann Dandurant Award from the National Committee for the Prevention of Child Abuse, the 1993 Commissioner’s Award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, a Faculty/Alumni Award from the MU Alumni Association in 1989, the Thomas Cochran Award for Outstanding Public Service from the Missouri Bar Association in 1989 and the Hope Chest Award from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in 1988. He also was inducted into the Columbia Public Schools Hall of Leaders in 2008.

He is married to Carol Moseley. They have four children, Jerry Brumfield, Craig Brumfield, Elizabeth Wright and Robert Moseley, and six grandchildren.
