Ronald McDonald Family Room
Public hospital waiting areas are often crowded, noisy, and are not very comfortable. These factors do nothing to alleviate the stress that family members of hospitalized children are already feeling. They are often tired, scared, and unsure about what the future may bring. Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are special places designed just for these families – a place to escape the hospital atmosphere while at the same time being only a moment away from their child’s bedside.
Our Ronald McDonald Family Room at University Hospital’s Children’s Hospital originally opened in 1999. In the spring of 2007, the Family Room moved from the 7th floor of the Children’s Hospital to the 6th floor. The Family Room is staffed entirely by volunteers who help make families feel at home. The Room includes a kitchen with snacks and drinks, a living room, a private quiet room, restroom with shower facilities, and a washer/dryer for families to use. Thanks to the generosity of our volunteers and donors, all of these goods and services are provided to families at no cost!
